Germany's public universities are state funded, so most charge only a semester contribution rather than full tuition. That is the main reason they attract so many Indian applicants — but the language and documentation requirements decide who actually gets there.
Well-known public universities
- Technical University of Munich (TUM)
- Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU)
- Heidelberg University
- Humboldt University of Berlin
- RWTH Aachen University
- University of Stuttgart
Language requirements
Many master's programmes are taught in English, but German-taught bachelor's programmes typically expect a high level of German. Even for English-taught courses, B1 German makes part-time work, accommodation and daily life far easier.
Always confirm the exact requirement on the university's own admissions page — requirements differ by programme and change between intakes.
Plan the language early
Reaching B1 or B2 takes months of consistent study. Starting German while you shortlist universities is the single change that keeps applications on schedule. Our academy in Thrissur runs A1 to B2 batches with Goethe exam preparation.
